Here are a few things about the progress at the RC Park. This is basically a compilation of the last few updates and it should give you a better idea of what we are up against.
Normally, Saturday is the day we work on the RC Park because we all have Monday to Friday jobs. The recent rainfalls just prior to the weekends have been hampering our ability to get into the park with heavy machinery because of the soft ground. This results in a group of volunteers doing a lot of manual labour. We make steady progress, but we are slower than an excavator. We are at the point now where there is little manual labour remaining, until we can get in there with the needed machinery.
In the next couple of weeks, we plan on getting more clay for the base, that same day we want to have a excavator onsite to spread it and a commercial roller to smooth things out.
The next step is to put down a top coat which ideally would consist of a clay/black dirt mixture and smooth it out with a commercial roller. If possible we would like to finish with all the heavy equipment on the same day, in an effort to keep machine rental costs at a minimum.
Once that is completed, we can put down the lane dividers.
At that point the track is ready to go and we will focus our attention to the drivers stand.
Donations received to date:
Thank you to all those who have donated already.
Big-O, to be used as lane dividers.
Threaded Rod and Rebar, to be used to hold down the lane dividers.
A load of Clay, which was used as the base coat.
Machinery and Operators, used to dismantle the BMX jumps and start to form the RC Park.
Money to cover the cost of insurance and a few other incidentals such as key deposits, bank account fees etc.
What do we need?
– Clay, 3-4 truck loads of clean clay.
– Commercial Grade Roller
– 2-3 truck loads of Top Coat Mixture
It would be great to have all of this stuff on site at the same time in the next few weeks and we can finish it off in one day. But to do this will require either donations of the above, or money so we can get what is required. If you have something you would like to donate, please email us at HalifaxRCpark@gmail.com.
Everything we have accomplished to this point, has been through donations and volunteers.
Thank you for all the support.
