I had a bunch of extra Traxxas parts sitting around, so I decided to order a Traxxas Slash 2wd LCG Chassis Kit and put together a new rig. I also was interested in comparing the Traxxas LCG which retails for around $32.00 and the Pro-Line Pro-2 LCG Performance Chassis which can be found for around $110. I used the Pro-Line Pro-2 LCG Performance Chassis in my Winter Build from 2013.
The Traxxas LCG Chassis went together very easily taking about an hour. The included instruction sheet which was typical Traxxas and was very easy to follow.
Once I had everything together I put it on my backyard RC track, which is very good for helping me dial in my setups. The truck was amazing, roll over was very hard to accomplished, and even in crashes, the vehicle seemed to land on its wheels more often then not. This chassis really makes the Slash handle so much better. Getting into corners is smooth, the vehicle seems to have tighter turning radius then with the HCG Chassis and this allows me to get the power down earlier out of the corners. The chassis is a great platform to build a Traxxas racing vehicle. It took a lot of tweaking to get my Pro-Line LCG set up to feel as good as the Traxxas LCG out of the box. Maybe the Traxxas LCG just suits my driving style better.
I love my Pro-Line LCG Chassis, it has held up great over the last year and a half, but the Traxxas LCG Chassis is less than a third of the price and in my opinion, the handling difference is minimal. My recommendation would be to save the money, get the Traxxas LCG Chassis and go buy some MIP or Tekno CVD’s. If your thinking of buying a Slash 2wd LCG Chassis, make sure you give this one some serious consideration.
Your new Slash project runs great, from what I’ve watched! Wonder if you would give me advice about something with my 1/16 Slash?
I can try, but I have only ever seen th 1/16 Slash one time.
Well, if you can’t help, least ya tried, right? 🙂 I’ve decided to look into new somewhat bigger tires for my 1/16th baby, because as it is, the truck gets stuck in grass, with the body on. A field, next to the house is all I’ve got to run in..
I’ve googled the tire topic, directing me to the traxxas forum, where someone posted that the 2WD Slash tires would work, though with some body trimming. Before spending the money and finding out they don’t fit, I’d like a second opinion.
I asked around a nobody in the club has experience with the 1/16 Slash. A quick look at the exploded views tells me the wheel hexes are different. They maybe the same size, but they have different part numbers. So that is something that may need to be changed in addition to the body trimming. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
