I was gluing some tires the other day and I was wishing I had purchased a tire gluing kit. It can sometimes be a pain to get the tire to seat properly around the wheel, while waiting for the glue to dry. After looking at a gluing kit I decided it would be less expensive to go to the hardware store and purchase some 4″ hose clamps. A 4″ hose clamp will work perfectly with a SCT tire.
I like to turn my tires inside out and tape the inside, this will prevent tire ballooning. Usually I use Gorilla Tape but I didn’t have enough to complete the job. I have had good results with Duct Tape in the past, so that is what I used for this job. Make sure to properly wash the inside of the tires and allow them to dry before applying the tape.
I applied a small amount of thin CA or Tire glue to 4 points on the rim (Usually only requires a drop or two). The thin tire glue will roll down the rim and ensure proper coverage until the next gluing point.
Once I had glue on one side of the wheel, I put the hose clamp around the tire and tightened up the hose clamp. I then moved on to next tire and repeated.
Once the glue was dried, I removed the clamps and repeated the same process on the opposite side of the tires.
Using the 4″ hose clamps was great. At this point I can’t see myself ever buying a tire gluing kit. I bought 2 hose clamps for $1.88, I just need to get 2 more, so I can do all 4 tires at once.
