I started Part 3 by making the Front Bumper. To do that I used a Traxxas 1/10 Rally Front Skidplate Part# TRA7437, which will allow me to bolt the bumper directly to the frontend. I also used a Traxxas Rustler Front Bumper Part# TRA2735, for the bumper. As you can see in the pics, I cut up the Rally Skidplate, so I could match it up with the Bumper. The two pieces were then held together with two 4mm x 10mm CCS Screws and two 4mm nuts. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the two pieces came together.
**** After looking at this for a couple of days, I decided to drill to different holes in the Rustler Bumper, closer to the front. I didn’t like how the far the bumper was sticking out when I used the factory holes of the Rustler Bumper.*****
Next Up I installed a KingHeadz Motor Mount for the Traxxas Rally. To me this is a must have upgrade for any version of the Slash 4×4. It has an larger bearing then the stock part, which will require much less maintenance. It also is made of aluminum which helps to dissipate heat from the motor.
I am using a Losi Eight Nitro body and it is a little bigger than the chassis. So I decided to cut up the stock Traxxas Rally Nerf Bars Part# TRA7423. The pieces of the Nerf Bars will be used to pick up the space between the body and chassis. I cut them so I had four pieces I could just reattach to the chassis, without using the middle piece. The two middle pieces can be saved for a future project.
***** FYI, the Losi 8ight-E 3.0 body is a much better fit than the body I am using. You will not need the Nerf Bars******
Parts I used to complete this step:
Traxxas 1/10 Rally Front Skidplate Part# TRA7437
Traxxas Rustler Front Bumper Part# TRA2735
KingHeadz Motor Mount for the Traxxas Rally
Traxxas Rally Nerf Bars Part# TRA7423
Next time I will show you what I came up with for the body.
