We are going to take a shot at giving out some gift ideas for the RC fan in your life. We have 10 gift ideas and some stocking stuffer ideas. These gifts aren’t brand specific and we hope you can find something that will work out nicely for you no matter what brand of RC your enthusiast may own.
1) Gift Certificates:
Yeah I know that’s the easy way out, but never underestimate the power of a Gift Certificate from your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) in the hands of your RC lover. I guarantee they will find a way to spend it. Make sure they tell you what they bought with it.
2) Rotory Tool:
This has so many uses in the hobby, from modify parts to helping remove stripped screws. These also have many uses around the house. Check your Local Hardware Store, you may be able to find a nice set with attachments on sale this time of year.
3) Rechargeable Batteries:
These can be nice to have for a RC Transmitter (Radio). I love the thought of never buying transmitter batteries again. Make sure the batteries come with a charger or the recipient has a way of charging them. Typically a RC Transmitter will use any where from 4 – 8 AA batteries, so you will need to do some research. These can be found at your Local Department, Office Supply or Hardware Store.
This comes in handy when repairing a RC in less than ideal lighting conditions. It straps around your head providing extra light to the area you are working on and it leaves your hands free to work. These can be found just about any where they sell flashlights.
5) Parts Organizers:
These come in many different shapes and sizes. You can get some with compartments, some with drawers, some with both. You will be surprised at how quickly we can fill these organizers. Look for parts organizers at your Local Hardware or Department Store. Here are some examples Small Parts Storage and Drawer Units & Storage Chests.
6) Work Stand:
These are handy for working on RC vehicles and a nice place to store the RC when not in use. It keeps the Tires elevated which will eliminate flat spots on them. These have a wide price range, so you should be able to find something in your budget. Here are just a few examples Revolve RC Workstation, Team Integy Work Stand, and Duratrax. Check your Local Hobby Shop or Online Hobby Retailers.
7) Turnigy Battery Charge Marker:
These come in packs of 10 and you only need 1 per battery. They are self-adhesive and stick onto the battery, when the battery has a full charge slide it to indicate green. When the battery has been drained, slide it to indicate read. These are handy for the person with multiple batteries. You can find these at HobbyKing.com.
These are great for helping to keep the RC work area neat and organized. Some are even magnetic, which makes it act as a screw catcher preventing dropped screws from getting lost on the ground. They come in many different sizes and can be found at your Local Hobby Shop, Online Hobby Retailers or a Online Specialty Retailer such as CowRC.com.
9) Body Scissors and Reamer:
If your hobbyist likes to paint their own RC bodies, they may need a new Body Scissors and Reamer set. If they are getting ready to paint their first RC body, they really should have a Body Scissors and Reamer set. The scissors are made to cut the Lexan (the plastic RC bodies are made from), much easier then regular scissors. The Reamer is used to put holes in the body so it can be mounted on the RC vehicle. The can be found at your Local Hobby Shop or at Online Hobby Retailers.
10) Magnetic Pick up tool:
These are extendable to easily 18″ and collapse to pen size, with a magnet on the end. I like this for a few reasons. Sometimes when working on my RC a screw will fall and get caught somewhere on the truck and for whatever reason I cant just turn the vehicle upside down and shake it to get the screw back, this will do the trick very nicely. Truth be told, I can’t stand when I drop a screw on the floor while doing a repair and I need to get off my chair, get onto my hands and knees and crawl under my desk to retrieve it. This eliminates that. Yeah I know I’m lazy. It is also great if I need to pick up a large pile of screws I knocked onto the floor. Yep still lazy and now a little clumsy. They can be found at your local hardware store.
