Our new lap timer has arrived. We had many discussions, and selected the DirtChamp Design TimeR. Today, we have a bunch of pictures, as well as an “Unboxing” video. Once we get this thing outside, and put it through its paces, we will give a full review.
The other RC Lap Timer that we considered was from TrackmateRacing.com. It seems like a neat system, which deserves consideration, if you plan to purchase a RC Lap Timer. But for now.
RC Lap Timers Post #2
So we have decided on DirtChamp Design.
We have found it at two different locations in North America. At this time both places are out of stock.
RC Lap Timers #1
The base system is $290.00.
It includes 4 overhead detectors to cover a 5 foot track. 3 Transponders, Decoder and USB and all cables, Software.
To cover a 14 foot wide track we need 12 total overhead detectors. So we need to purchase an additional 8 detectors. The detectors cost $25.00ea, for a total of $200.00.
Each vehicle being timed needs a transponder. The system comes with 3. Additional transponders are $38.00ea(This should be noted for future reference, as well as the fact that this system can accommodate up to 14 cars.)
Shipping cost to USA or Canada start at around $20.00
We are looking at a total of $510.00 divide that by 3, and you get $170.00. This price doesn’t include a port USB to serial port adapter, or any extra transponders.
The base system here is about $425.75 Canadian. The base system only comes with one transponder, so we would need at least 2 more. They are approx $64.00 Canadian. I have not calculated shipping on this system, I think they are in Europe some place, but I have found their system in the US. At Amainhobbies
This system appeaars to be newer technology and is wireless compared to system 1.
We would be looking at approx $184.00ea
